Supporting student work experience

Reading time: 2 minutes
Did you know you could support student work experience by hiring an Intern through the Employ.ed on Campus Programme?

Since 2010, the Employ.ed on Campus Internship Programme has provided valuable paid work experience to over 600 students. Open to all University departments and schools, this programme enables you to host motivated interns from our talented pool of 2nd, 3rd and penultimate-year undergraduates for 8-12 weeks on a part-time or full-time basis. It’s an opportunity to support students in their professional development while bringing fresh energy and new perspectives into your team.

“The Employ.ed internship programme is a great opportunity for staff to get fresh sets of eyes on your workload and the challenges you may face, while providing a great development opportunity for a student at an essential step in their career journey.” – previous Employ.ed on Campus host.

The Careers Service supports you and the interns throughout the process, from project scoping and recruitment guidance to ongoing intern personal development, including induction, midpoint and final events. Interns are guided to reflect on their personal and professional growth through the Edinburgh Award:

Edinburgh Award

What are the benefits?

  • Interns can complete projects that may be on hold or otherwise wouldn’t be done.
  • You gain a student perspective on your project.
  • You gain a motivated new team member.
  • You support student employability by providing valuable work experience.
  • It’s a great development opportunity for staff with little or no line management experience. Staff member Carla shares her first experience of line management through Employ.ed in this blog:
