Capital Conversations: a look back at an inspiring series

Over the past three months, we’ve been proud to host a powerful trio of Capital Conversations events, bringing together sporting icons, current students and inspiring alumni for evenings of honest discussion, personal reflection and shared experience.

We kicked off the series with rugby greats Chris Paterson and trailblazing referee Hollie Davidson, joined by current Scotland internationals and University of Edinburgh students Matt Currie and Harry Paterson. Next, we welcomed some of Scotland’s most decorated athletes, including Olympic hurdler Eilidh Doyle, swimmer Hannah Miley, Paralympian Libby Clegg, and European badminton silver medallist, Kirsty Gilmour.

Their stories of perseverance, identity and elite performance struck a deep chord with our audiences. We closed the series last week with an intimate and moving evening featuring GB swimmer and Edinburgh student Archie Goodburn, alongside Paralympian and motivational speaker David Smith MBE.

Stay tuned for more Capital Conversations in the next academic year. Follow us to be the first to hear about future dates:

Carlyle Circle event

It was an honour to have Sport represented at the latest Carlyle Circle event at the Playfair Library. This event was a way to thank University of Edinburgh alumni and friends, whose generous legacy pledges are instrumental in supporting the activity, progress and impact of our University.

Eilidh Doyle (Global Ambassador for Sport) and Kirsten Murison (incoming Women’s Hockey 1s Captain) shared insight into the experience of balancing elite sport and studies at the University before exchanging stories and great conversation with alumni and supporters.
