The University’s staff guidance on Generative Artificial Intelligence has been updated.

The changes bring the guidance, originally published in July 2023, up to date with the latest developments in this fast-evolving area. It includes:

  • Guidance for staff on the use of AI
  • Links to AI training courses
  • Special guidance and advice for researchers
  • Guidance on the approval process for using AI at scale in your area.

The Generative AI guidance for staff can be found here:

The staff guidance complements the University’s recently-published Generative AI guidance for students:

Professor Michael Rovatsos, who co-authored the updated guidance with Vice-Principal Gavin McLachlan, said:

“The impact of AI on organisations is hard to anticipate as the technology is rapidly evolving.

“Providing our staff with up-to-date guidance is an important step to raise awareness, encourage debate, and give colleagues the confidence to navigate emerging opportunities and challenges.”

The University’s own platform for accessing Generative AI via Large Language Models, ELM, has also now been updated. Documents can now be uploaded for the AI to work on, and it provides access to the latest versions of ChatGPT. For more information, visit the ELM support webpages:
