All staff and students are invited to join the celebration through a series of talks, activities, and training planned for the day.
When and where
All activities will take place on Tuesday 8 October in Teaching Room 1 (Digital Scholarship Centre), on Floor 6 of the Main Library, except for the uCreate activities. These will be happening in the uCreate Makerspace on Floor 1 of the Main Library.
Schedule
11am: Activities
Activities including badge and sticker-making, colouring in – with a special feature on the women in the Naming Spaces project – and activities organised by uCreate, including a bespoke Makerspace induction session and a robotics drop-in event.
12pm: Lunch
Lunch and tea/coffee will be provided, with dairy and gluten-free options available.
12.30pm: Talks
The confirmed speakers for Ada Lovelace Day 2024 are:
- Professor Helen Hastie – Professor of Human-Robot Interaction, University of Edinburgh
- Professor Victoria Martin – Professor in Particle Physics, University of Edinburgh
- Ebtehal Alotaibi – Artificial Intelligence and Robotics PhD student, University of Edinburgh
- Professor Jane Hillston – Professor of Quantitative Modelling, University of Edinburgh
2.30pm: Wikipedia edit-a-thon
There will be a Wikipedia editing event in the afternoon, where we will write and publish articles about women in STEM on Wikipedia. This Ada Lovelace Day edit-a-thon will focus on women in robotics. You don’t need prior Wikipedia editing experience – full training will be provided on the day.
