Communications and Marketing maintains a large image bank of photographs, that are available for University staff to use in their teaching, and recruitment or marketing activities.
The image bank is the University’s central resource, holding a wide range of images that are freely available for staff use. New photography is added throughout the year from centrally-organised photoshoots and, if you have obtained the appropriate permission from your photographer and subjects, you can also submit images from your own area for inclusion and use. Common uses for photography from the image bank can include enhancing teaching and learning resources, or for communications, marketing, or recruitment purposes. Other uses will be considered on an individual basis.
Finding images
For a curated collection of images from the most recent photoshoots, see Latest Uploads. You may browse the folders and collections of images but given the size of the image bank, we recommend using the search box (top right). Please note that the search engine is quite basic and will only match all words used in the search box. To widen your results, try using fewer search terms.
Logos
No logos are held in the image bank. These are available from the Brand SharePoint site (EASE log in required).
Downloads
After selecting an image, please use the download arrow to obtain the high-res version for use. Within a folder or collection a download all option is also available.
Credits
All images remain copyright of either the University or of the original photographer. Where a photographer credit should be given, the photographer’s name is given within square brackets, usually after the image’s caption.
There are a few images in the gallery that require credit. As a general rule, if you are using an image which has to be credited, then all other images used should also be credited. If an image is to appear in an external publication/website, the credit should be ‘Photographer’s name for the University of Edinburgh’.
Access
The University image bank is password protected. Please use your EASE log in to view the Photo & video resources page on SharePoint, obtain the password and access the image bank.
