The draft plan sets out the University’s proposed principles and commitments for Gaelic for 2025-30. To ensure the new action plan reflects the priorities from across its community, the University is consulting with staff, students, and the local community, whether they are Gaelic-speaking or not, on the commitments that are outlined.
For the past five years, the University has been delivering on the commitments that were set out in its current Gaelic Plan. This included expanding learning opportunities, the establishment of a Gaelic Writer in Residence scheme, and strengthening ties with local organisations and the University’s Gaelic networks.
Isla Parker, the University’s Gaelic Officer, said: “As a global University, firmly rooted in a unique civic history, we recognise the responsibilities we have towards Gaelic, one of the native living languages of Scotland. We’re gathering as much feedback as possible on our plans for refreshing and revitalising our strategic direction for Gaelic for the next five-year period.”
