Top updates from across the University.

1. Industrial action update

In the latest regular update on the industrial action taking place at our University and others across the UK, the Principal emailed all staff on 8 September to confirm that the marking and assessment boycott had been called off with immediate effect. UCU has also confirmed new strike action from 25 to 29 September. The priority now is to ensure that students who are still waiting for their degree and course outcomes are provided with these as swiftly as the academic process allows. Guidance and the latest information can be found on the staff webpages and industrial action SharePoint site.

2. Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC)

You may be aware of recent media coverage of the closure or restricted access to a number of buildings across the UK due to the use of Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) panels. As a precautionary measure, the University has restricted access to areas within eight buildings until more detailed surveys have been completed. Our Business Continuity, Estates and Timetabling teams have relocated all Welcome Week activities and are looking towards any contingency that may be required beyond that point, communicating with affected areas as required. Good progress is being made with additional structural assessments where needed. Guidance and the latest information can be found on the ‘RAAC at the University of Edinburgh’ webpages.

3. Staff Engagement Survey

The full survey findings can now be shared and you are able to view the full dashboard via the new dedicated SharePoint site. The survey results highlight some real strengths for the University, including the quality of our staff and students. The senior team is committed to making changes that will improve colleagues’ experience. You will be updated in due course on the action that is being taken in your respective areas.
