Starting on Sunday 5 March, there will be a Learn to Ride course running over a period of four weeks, taking place from 10am to 12pm every Sunday. These classes will teach you the very basics of cycling, and are suitable for people who never learned to ride, or have not ridden since childhood.
On Sunday afternoons (1pm to 4pm) there are courses covering Essential Cycling Skills. These are suitable for people who are able to ride a bicycle, but lack the confidence and skills to cycle on roads with traffic. These courses are split into two levels, alternating each week:
- Level 2 is an introduction to on-road cycling. It is best for people who are comfortable riding on traffic free routes, but are wary of cycling around traffic. It will support you to cycle on quiet roads and make basic manoeuvres.
- Level 3 covers advanced riding techniques. It is best for people who can cycle on quiet back streets, but get nervous on busier roads. It will cover advanced manoeuvres and more complicated junctions.
Each Essential Cycling Skills class is delivered on a one-off basis, but you are welcome to book onto multiple courses if you want further training. These courses alternate between Level 2 and Level 3
All courses are delivered by staff from the council’s Outdoor Education team.
