First Breath: Autumn 2022

Reading time: 2 minutes

First Breath, a programme of autumn events from Edinburgh Futures Institute (EFI) focusing on some of the critical challenges of our time, runs until 2 December.

This creative and thought-provoking programme, which started on 10 October, offers a wide range of activities and performances, readings, and discussions. These include responses to the climate and environmental crisis, to migration and displacement, and to equality, reparation and justice, featuring authors, poets, musicians, scientists and artists as they explore the themes and invite provocation and response.

Diverse programme

First Breath events continue throughout November. These feature poetry and performances, author discussions, participatory sessions and workshops reflecting the diverse work and communities of practitioners, researchers, students and external partners that EFI reaches. Topics will include children’s climate risk, sustainability and artificial intelligence, and the fight for climate after Covid-19.

For further information and booking, review the upcoming First Breath events online.

Events are either on campus at Inspace, Crichton Street, or online, with many delivered in hybrid format (live streamed). This reflects the open nature of the programme and supports its ambition to attract an audience that is not limited by geographic boundaries. All events are free to attend and open to all University staff as well as the public.

The Future of Climate Justice

First Breath is closely aligned with the University’s third series of the Edinburgh Futures Conversations – The Future of Climate Justice – which saw experts from around the world share their views on pressing global issues.
