50 years of Pride

Reading time: < 1 minute
This June marks 50 years of celebrating Pride.

The University is committed to eliminating discrimination and prejudice based on sexual orientation and gender identity. We’re striving to create a more diverse and inclusive university.

The University will be flying the Progress flag at Old College during the Pride event later this month.

The Progress Flag was designed in 2018 and has been adopted by the LGBTQ community to demonstrate inclusion of minority groups. In addition to the rainbow pride stripes, there are five arrow shaped lines to represent inclusion of people of colour and trans people.

The Staff Pride Network (SPN) also has a number of plans.

SPN at Pride Edinburgh, Saturday 25 June

University staff and students are welcome to join SPN in marching at Edinburgh Pride this year, taking place on Saturday 25 June – they’d love to see you there in full force.

You can identify them on the day by the SPN logo t-shirts and pride banner.

There will be a chill-out space and refreshments available for staff and students on campus after the march. Further details will be shared via the members’ mailing list in the coming week.

Send an email to request to join the SPN members mailing list: staffpridenetwork@ed.ac.uk
