Top updates from across the University.

1. Exceptional payment for staff

Last month the Principal announced that all staff will be offered an exceptional payment in recognition of the tremendous efforts made to deliver on the breadth of our University’s work over such difficult times.

This payment will be made to all staff in the pay run on 28 June.

Further details are available in the FAQs on the Staff News website:

2. Industrial action

The University and College Union (UCU) will not now be calling on members to participate in a marking and assessment boycott. This means students will not be further impacted by the current dispute.

The other forms of continuous Action Short Of a Strike (ASOS) called by UCU remain unchanged and began on Monday 23 May. The University will therefore not be withholding pay from those UCU members who choose to take part in ASOS.

It is possible that UCU will call further industrial action during the ballot mandate, and the University therefore reserves the right to amend its position over the coming months.

More information and updates can be found on the HR website: Industrial action updates

3. Volunteers’ Week

Next week (1 to 7 June) marks National Volunteers’ Week: an opportunity to say thanks to all those people who have given up their time to good causes.

University staff are entitled to an additional day of leave to volunteer. You can find out more about A Day to Make a Difference and volunteering opportunities on the Edinburgh Local website.
