Edinburgh Winter Run returns

Reading time: 2 minutes
Saturday 15 January will see the return of the popular Edinburgh Winter Run.

The 5k route will take place in the picturesque Holyrood Park, with the main event circling around Arthur’s Seat. The event is open to all staff and students as well as friends and family so everyone is encouraged to get involved. Last year more than 500 members of the University community took part.

All runners are invited to come in fancy dress as Edinburgh Winter Run attempts to become the biggest fancy dress fun run in the UK. Whatever takes your fancy – whether you dress in a collective theme with your friends and family, or you just want to don your ultimate outfit.

This time, Edinburgh Winter Run is going to be all about bringing the biggest fun possible and dialling up the enjoyment factor with a good-times carnival and festival spirit. There will be a Samba Band, Steel Drum Band, Red Bull DJs, Stage & Screen, Radio DJs, Street Food, and Merch Stalls to keep you entertained.

You can enter into the standard 5k to race, or just simply come to be part of the fancy dress fun run.

There will be a series of events throughout the day so all ages can get involved:

  • The Edinburgh Winter Run 5k: the headline race of the day, which will take the form of a classic and challenging road run around the iconic Arthur’s Seat. The run starts between 11:00am and 11:45am, and is open to competitors aged 13 plus.
  • The Toddler Dash: a 100-metre dash to the finish line for those aged up to five years old when accompanied by an adult, starting at 12:45pm.
  • The Family Mile: a flat one-mile loop starting at 13:15pm and finishing on Queen’s Drive.

Registration is £25, however the first 700 entrants will receive a £10 discount by using their University email address.

Once you’ve signed up, you can join a Facebook group where staff, students and alumni can share running tips and meet training pals. Join the group at: Edinburgh Winter Run 2022: Facebook group
