Sharing in our Success 2021

Last week James Saville, HR Director, shared news about the Sharing in our Success initiative; a significant one-off increase in resources this year to recognise staff contribution. Here James shares more information about it.

Throughout the challenges of the pandemic, staff from across the University have gone over and above to ensure the smooth running of the University and to enhance the experience of our students and colleagues. This has been a great achievement which has created an excellent platform for what is set to be another important year, as we continue to manage the effects of the pandemic and our gradual return to a form of normality.

The senior management team wants to recognise the contribution and efforts of a greater number of staff than is normally possible, in furthering the University’s objectives outlined in Strategy 2030.

For that reason, we will be:

  • Doubling the amount available for the reward of sustained excellence via salary contribution increments, payable in August 2022
  • Increasing the amount available for contribution lump-sum payments by 50 per cent, payable in July 2022
  • Increasing the budget for the Voucher Award Scheme, and opening it to all Grades 1 to 9

Budget heads and moderation panels will be encouraged to consider both the 2020 and 2021 years in making decisions on who should receive either lump-sum or contribution increments.

We are also strongly encouraging budget holders to focus sustained excellence salary increments in ways that reduce pay gaps for staff with protected characteristics.

These measures will apply to all eligible staff Grades 1 to 10 inclusive.

Full details will be made available to staff and managers over the coming months so that everyone is clear about eligibility and criteria ahead of the decision-making process in Spring 2022.

We hope that Sharing in Our Success 2021 will contribute to the recognition that staff rightly deserve for their continued achievements, and feel part of what we fully expect to be a successful, while sometimes challenging, year for the University.
