1. UCU ballot for industrial action
In response to the recent negotiations on the 2020 USS pension valuation process, the University and College Union (UCU) has decided to ballot for industrial action. They opened at UK universities on Monday 18 October, and will run until Thursday 4 November unless employers resolve the dispute beforehand. UCU will meet to consider the results of the ballot on 8th November, with action expected to take place before the end of the year.
More information will be available on the University website shortly.
2. Sequestering our CO2 emissions
The University has committed to capture and store its unavoidable carbon emissions, while working to benefit nature, through restoring peatlands and expanding forests in Scotland. The University expects to remove almost 1.5 million tonnes of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere in line with its pledge to be Carbon-Zero by 2040.
3. December exam diet
All exams (with some exceptions for students in the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine) in the December exam diet will take place online. Students do not need to remain in Edinburgh during this period but it is critical that, wherever they are, students should be confident that they have the space and technology to complete online exams and they should be aware that the lack of those facilities will not constitute special circumstances.
Our campuses will remain open for students who need to use our facilities.
