Celebrating our colleagues – 21 September

Each fortnight, bulletin highlights and celebrates the latest prizes awarded to our fellow staff members. Congratulations to all involved.

The Edinburgh Race Equality Network (EREN) has received the award for community building at the Hidden REF awards. The category is a new one, to ensure recognition of work and contributors often overlooked and underrepresented in traditional research outputs.

Jane Hillston, Professor of Quantitative Modelling and Head of School in the School of Informatics, has been awarded the Royal Society of Edinburgh Lord Kelvin Medal for her work. The award is given each year to an exceptional individual who has demonstrated lifelong dedication and made an outstanding contribution to physical, engineering & informatic sciences.

Dr Adam Stokes, Reader in the School of Engineering, has won the University’s first Data Driven Entrepreneurship (DDE) Academic Entrepreneurship Award, presented to a member of academic staff who has shown outstanding leadership in driving entrepreneurship among students and fellow researchers.

Six Edinburgh academics have been recognised in UKRI’s (UK Research and Innovation) flagship Future Leaders Fellowship scheme which supports early career researchers with remarkable potential. Congratulations to Dr Claire Hobday of the School of Chemistry, Dr Dominique Laniel who will be joining the School of Physics in 2022, Dr Nadanai Laohakunakorn of the School of Biological Sciences, Dr Bethany Mills of the Queens Medical Research Institute, Dr Anne Templeton and Dr Wataru Uegaki, both of the School Philosophy, Psychology & Language Sciences.
