Edward Lawrenson, Lecturer in Architecture and Urbanism at Edinburgh College of Art has won the Society of Architectural Historians Award for Film and Video for the short documentary film UPPLAND, created with Killian Doherty from Kingston University London. The prize recognises and celebrates their work on the history of the built environment.
Professor Tara Spires-Jones, Personal Chair of Neurodegeneration and Deputy Director of the Centre for Discovery Brain Sciences and UK Dementia Research Institute, has been appointed the new President-elect of the British Neuroscience Association. Tara will become the fourth female President since 1968, when the role was first created.
Professor Loeske Kruuk, who will be joining the School of Biological Sciences later in 2021, and Professor Alice Turk, Head of Linguistics and English Language in the School of Philosophy, Psychology & Language Sciences, have both secured a European Research Council (ERC) Advanced Grant in recognition of their track record of excellence in their field.
Professor Kruuk’s project EVOWILD will lead to a better understanding of how environmental changes can shape evolution in wild animal populations.
Professor Turk’s project Planning the Articulation of Spoken Utterances (PlanArt) seeks to answer long-standing questions about the basic underpinnings of human speech.
