Nominate your next Rector

Nominations are open for the next University Rector. Elections take place every three years and all students and staff can nominate candidates.The rector is carried in their chair in Old College Quad

The Rector sits in on University Court meetings and represents the interests of the whole University community in the decision making process. The University Court is the governing body of the University of Edinburgh.

Previous Rectors include former Prime Ministers Gordon Brown, Winston Churchill, David Lloyd George and Earl Kitchener

The elections for the next Rector will take place in 2021 and the nominations close at 12pm on 1 February. Candidates will be confirmed by 8 February and all votes are to be returned by 22 February.

Nominees must be supported by a minimum of 40 signatures from University staff and students and have to accept the nomination in writing.
